Harbour Bar Publish Autumn Line Up

Live@Troon has the strapline Building a Sound Legacy for a reason - it exists to promote the benefits of live music to the community and business alike.

It's great to see that the charity has perhaps given some businesses the confidence to book more live music than they otherwise have done and our hats go off to The Harbour Bar for taking it on full tilt.

They are committed to developing a year round live music programme and as we approach the L@T weekend a bog shout out to Jonny and his team for the following dates.
  • Sat 19th Sept - The Sneaks
  • Sat 26th Sept - Crowfest Acoustic Session
  • Sat 3rd Oct - TBC
  • Sat 10th Oct - Sonny Daze & The Restless Knights
  • Sat 17th Oct - Downtown Loft

Tom Morton Homecoming

We are delighted to have it confirmed that for Saturday's South Beach Sessions, Mr Tom Morton will be in the building...

He sent us this wee note.

Back to where I had my first pint!

Tom Morton returns to the South Beach Hotel after 43 years

One minute you’re looking forward to talking nonsense and playing some tunes on the radio, the next there’s a helicopter hovering overhead and not one, but two earthbound ambulances on their way to your house.

Heart attack. Mild, or as I prefer to call it, The Incident. Runs in the family, so hardly unexpected. So it’s hospitals, more ambulances (road and air), another hospital, something called a stent, and a lifetime cocktail of drugs and moderate cheese consumption. Plus red wine in small quantities.

Broadcasting, though, is out, and so is public speechifying, performance, gigs and other things calculated to send adrenalin thumping around my bedraggled and somewhat narrowed arteries. At least until early September.

After all, the Live At Troon South Beach Hotel gig on Saturday night is one I personally chose the lineup for. It’s been billed ‘Tom Morton’s Homecoming Not Having Another Heartattack Session’ or somesuch. And it would be a shame to miss out. Especially as the South Beach features heavily in my memory banks as the first place I ever had a pint. Of, err...shandy. After the Marr College Drama Club performance of something called A Filthy Story, if I’m not mistaken.

Who’s playing? JJ Gilmour, former Silencer, is an excellent raconteur and songwriter who’s appeared several times on my radio programmes over the years. He’ll be accompanied by my old pal and sometime bandmate Graeme Duffin, he of Wet Wet Wet fame. Ashton Lane features his daughter Esther as well as Graeme himself. And Nicky Murray is one of the young up and coming stars of Scottish acoustic music, with a world-weary voice that belies his years.

I’m looking forward to it - my first public appearance since The Incident. And the organisers have promised to have an ambulance standing by outside. Just in case.

There are a few tickets remaining for the gig online - book here

Seaside Sons:

Seaside Sons started with friends Jason Skimming & Craig McGinn getting together in 2012. It wasn't long before they started to build a following. In October of 2013, experienced guitarist Pav Cathcart and seasoned drummer Campbell Sproat both formerly of Nelson Gem, joined the band.
Little over a month later, Seaside Sons played the well renowned King Tuts in Glasgow, playing to a sell-out crowd. Since then the band have gone on from strength to strength, making plans for a U.K. tour and festival appearances in 2015.

The band released their debut album “Out of Time” on February 21st 2015 available to download on iTunes.

Description of themselves:  "Gritty Rock driven sounds that tear into your soul"

The Kleptocrats:

The Kleptocrats have been gigging for about 5 years, from playing local gigs in Ayr to headlining Glasgow ABC and last year brought themselves one step closer to becoming household names by having a fantastic time with memorable performances supporting established bands among them the highly acclaimed "Kill it Kid" at top class career launching venues such as King Tuts.

Description of themselves:  "Dark blues music with heavy face melting guitar parts"

Meanbone:

Meanbone are a band with their roots planted firmly in the 90's alternative grunge rock scene but with an up to date twist. Starting with a raw and powerful set list and adding the natural energy of the band members makes the perfect recipe for a rocking night ... their motto is "All gigs louder and better than the last!" The band have made a lasting impact all over Ayrshire and Glasgow (notably at the Clutha Appeal) and anticipation is growing for upcoming events.

Description of themselves:  "Meanbone .... Louder, faster, harder!"

Great to see some of the acts that performed at Live@Troon in tiny little venues getting great coverage and moving up in the world. In this week's They Wur Here is Have Mercy Las Vegas who have graced several Live@Troon stages over the past few years.

I remember them all crammed into a corner of The Harbour Bar a couple of years back and they had the place rocking.

Great wee video from the main stage at Troon Concert Hall 2014 when they supported The Red Hot Chilli Pipers
